Janaka and Ashtavakra
Swami Sarvapriyananda presents two stories about King Janaka and Sage Ashtavakra. He explains that while both dreams and waking experiences are not true, the experiencer (the consciousness) is always there. He states that neither the dream nor the experience is the truth, but rather the experiencer is the truth.
- That is not true. Dream is not true. But did you experience it? So you the experiencer was there.
- This is also not true. But are you experiencing it? That you cannot deny. You the experiencer are there.
- Neither this is true nor that is true but you’re the truth. You means consciousness, not the body/mind.
